Most of you know that I have invested a great deal of time and energy into supporting young people in our community. Through this work and the incredible relationships I have built with youth and young adults, I have learned a lot about the ways that Black and brown youth, LGBTQ youth, and youth who have been system involved are treated like problems to be contained rather than gems to be treasured and nurtured. Many of them are criminalized just for living and expressing themselves. This has to stop. And RISE for Youth is one organization that is dedicated to making that happen. I believe in their work, their commitment, and their people. And I ask you to believe in them too by helping RISE for Youth create healthy communities, free from over policing, and of over representation of youth of color in Virginia's justice system.
